I just installed coppermine photogallery through fantastico, which is an automatic install script through my hostin control panel. When I try to go to the coppermine photogallery, it says:

Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@teenpoint.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Apache/1.3.31 Server at www.teenpoint.net Port 80

you can test it at: www.teenpoint.net/photos. Anyhelp would be appreciated. Thanks.

Make sure the permissions on all the php files are set to CHMOD 755 since you are on a suPHP server. You can do that through your ftp client or in the file manager in CPanel. If you still have problems, try installing coppemrine manually.

This is the posting from cpg1.2 support board. It's nearly identical, so I merged it with the existing thread. Thank you for not double-posting in the future. If you discover you have initially posted on the wrong board, reply to your own post with "moderator please move this to XXX" instead of starting a new thread on another board.

Well, I didn't manually install it. Coppermine came with my hosting, and I just click install, so I don't think it messed up the installation. I'll check though. All the PHP files?!? They are all 666 in my coppermine directory. I installed coppermine yesterday, and it worked, but then today it gave me this error, so I reinstalled it, and it still gives me this same error.

Take a look at the server error log then ;)!
There's little we can do about this. Try re-uploading all coppermine files to your server, maybe they got corrupted during upload. If this doesn't help, as your webhost for support.

P.S. Posting a link might have helped a little... *hint* ;)

this is my answer to your posting on the cpg1.2 support board. I didn't know at that time that you already posted here on the 1.3 support board as well.

Just resolved similar issue. (used Fantastico to install coppermine, same error 500)

I had to chmod (hope that's the right term) all of my script files to 755.  They were defaulted to 666, which doesn't allow you to execute the scripts.  Hence the error.

Side question, is it OK to leave every file/folder 755, or should some be changed to allow users to upload.  I'm not very literate when it comes to that.  I also don't want to be unsecure.

depends on your server settings. As a rule of thumb, you shouldn't grant write access if not necessary. Coppermine needs write access for the albums folder to run properly, all other files and folders only need read and execute permissions, but it's possible that your webhost has configured your server in a way that needs write access for particular groups. If 644 doesn't work for the coppermine root folder, you will have to CHMOD to 755 or 777. There are only two ways to really find out: either contact your webhost, or experiment by setting CHMOD to 644, check if it works and add permissions step by step if it doesn't.
