I am going to be moving to another host and was wondering which would be the best and easiest way to upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5?

My current version is 1.4 and has 100's of pictures so of course it would be better when I moved to the new host to just import the current
database but since it is version 1.4 my question would be should I install the 1.4 version of Coppermine and use my old database then update to 1.5 or could I install the 1.5 version and still use my old 1.4 database?

I would do this.

Backup your site and database.

Disable all plugins and bridges if you have any and set a default theme  such as classic.

Move just the database, your albums folder, your custome theme, the include/config.inc.php file and anycontent.php (if you use one) to the new location.

Edit you include/config.inc.php file to reflect the new database details

Upload the new 1.5 version to the new location

Run update.php

See if your new site works as expected.

If so you can upgrade your custom theme and if available add new versions of any plugins you may have.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Thank you, I'll try that and let you know how it goes. I am running just the default version with no plug-ins so it should go good.

I recommend the same procedure as Phill described. Move your content to the new server and then upgrade to cpg1.5.x.

Moving to upgrade board.

Well, I moved everything over, uploaded the new version and ran the upgrade.php and everything works.
Thanks a lot guys for your input.

There are a couple errors when I go into the config portion but I'll post those in the correct forum but for now I'm tired and time to go to bed.

Thanks again!

I am upgrading a large coppermine install from 1.4.26

My plan is to first install a new copy of coppermine 1.5 into a new directory.
I will then copy over the albums directory.

My question is this...can I just delete the empty 1.5 database and replace with a backup of the 1.4 then just do the update.php?

I can find a decent upgrade procedure anywhere.

You can do that but some things like plugins or bridges might fail. You may run into other problems.

First please read the board rules particularly the ones about hijacking other peoples threads and alway posting a link - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,55415.0.html

Have you read the upgrade guide? - http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/upgrading.htm

Please answer that question in a thread of your own.

sorry for breaching your extensive board etiquette, (did it really require 26 individual posts to explain?) but I have read the upgrade guide, which reads more like a lengthy feature list. http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/upgrading.htm
On that page I have found no simple, yet comprehensive step by step guide for going from 1.4 to 1.5
Just a very wordy explanation of what everything does.
Looks like I'm on my own.
