The upgrade from 1.4.27 to 1.5.8 appeared to go well. When the upgrade started, the theme was set to fiblack3, in version 1.4.27. On upgrading to 1.5.8 this theme was still selected, so in the config, I went to the theme settings and changed it - I think to waterdrop - but now if I try to select any other theme from the drop-down list, then save the configuration changes, the status message at the top of the screen confirms that the theme has been changed - but it has not - there is no change of appearance.

How might the theme selection be got working again?

Clear your cookies or just click here: http://www.paintballinthepark.co.uk/photos/?theme=xxx

If you have trouble with the theme, please start the thread in the themes board and not in the upgrade board. Moving accordingly.

Thanks Andre

That did the trick!

I notice that any subsequent change of theme also needs a cookie clearing before it shows (using Firefox 3.6.12 on WinXP). I don't know if that is a problem unique to me, or a common feature, but if so, it might be worth including in the documentation.

Thanks again
Alan

Quote from: http://documentation.coppermine-gallery.net/en/theme_user-contributions.htm#theme_user-contributions_installgoing to Coppermine's config, selecting your new theme "foobar" from the dropdown list under "Themes settings" > "Theme" and submitting your change by clicking "Save new configuration" at the bottom of the config screen. Finally, check if your settings stick by resetting your individual theme choice - go to http://your_site.tld/your_coppermine_folder/?theme=xxx.

Hello Andre

That's great advice - thanks.

It worked, but not in the way that I would have expected. When I changed the theme setting, then saved my changes, there was no visible change in the gallery being viewed, even after refreshing the browser - but it did change to the new template selection when I edited the browser address bar to http://{gallery url}?theme=xxx

So this seems to be a necessary step to activate the change in the template?

Thanks again
Alan

Your browser will store whatever theme you have set at the time.  Change the default theme in config, you'll have to do as Andre suggested to get it to show.  All new visitors to your site will see the default theme you have set in config.

If you want to be able to select on the fly, then you'll need to add the {THEME_SELECT_LIST} token to each of your themes template.php files.  Then it will give you a theme select box where you and each user can choose the theme instantly.
Running SMF 2.1.4  / Tinyportal 3.0.1, bridged with Coppermine 1.6.25, plus cpmfetch 2.0.0

If you want to avoid that your visitor may see the old theme (maybe they have visited before and it's stored in their cookie), just delete the themes you don't need in the themes folder.

Thanks Andre and lurkalot

That gives me some more options to better manage the themes.

Thanks for the great feedback.

I am having a hard time with your documentation.
I have read it many times on how to choose  new theme.
There must me a simple way to change the theme from say curve to rainy_day but I don't see where that option is in the Admin Tools or anywhere.
Please advise.
Thank you.

When logged in click on the config button, not the dropdown but the actual button at the top, the one you hover over for the dropdown to appear.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
