I have just upgraded to 1.5 and I'm no longer getting the registration emails and I discovered that the contact form does not work now either.  I'm almost positive the contact form was working on previous tests and I was getting email notifications about new users but now they are coming intermittantly also.  I have nothing set up in the SMTP settings, they are blank.  My server does support sending emails also.  When I send the contact form it gives me this error; Failed to send email. Please try again later.  I did see one post about the issue but it was in German.  Do I need to set up the SMTP portion?

Please enable debug mode and post the extended error message (that's not the debug output). Alternatively you can try to use sending via SMTP, if your host supports it.

Ok, did that here is the extended error.

Line 211 is this code; cpg_die(ERROR, $lang_contact_php['failed_sending_email'], __FILE__, __LINE__);

Not sure what this means, it almost looks like the default error?  Hope this helps.

Please try the SMTP method or/and contact your hosting provider about that issue.
