intermediate image

I have activated the function to ceate intermediate image. When I use coppermine it works fine but intermediate are still dynamically generated increasing so much my load server that it goes down.
Do you have an advise to make those intermediate images well created only once and recorded on hard drive and not dynamicaly generated at each print of a page?

nota : the thumbails are well created and stored on hard disk. Only intermediate images are not...
