Read EXIF data from JPEG files error

Can anyone help?

when I change my settings for Read EXIF data, I am getting this error message when  accessing the photos in my gallery.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function gettext() in /home/xxxxx/public_html/gallery/include/exif.php on line 606


Can anyone help or suggest a way of correction?
