can't add description to photo

I have just moved hosting companies where coppermine had been running since 2007
I have now installed latest coppermine on the new server
There was an initial problem, having created categories I tried to reorder them but this did not seem to work
but today I tried again and it work.
Having now created  Albums and populated one of them, I can add a name to a photo but not a description, if I try to enter anything in the description field it allows me to enter 4 letters only.
advice would be appreciated

Right, I'm slipping,
Being wrong side of 70 I'm allowed to once a year.
