running 1.5.36
and just wondering if there is a way of reordering the albums so newest in is shown first

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Alternatively, use this plugin if you don't want to order the albums manually, but always use a specific sort order for albums: http://coppermine-gallery.com/forum/index.php/topic,77314.0.html
