Is it still safe to use the current version of 1.6 of Coppermine Photo Gallery on a fansite? I ask cause I'm working on relaunching one of my fansites and want to use Coppermine as the gallery. I see that there hasn't been any updates for a year.

Yes. We have had no reports of any security issues.
It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
