CPG 1.6.x installation for a new site ????

In the download section for CPG Developer Release 1.6.03,  it says:

This current pre-release of CPG1.6 is, indeed, quite stable. It is only in pre-release status because documentation has not been fully updated. All new CPG installations should definitely start with CPG 1.6.x.

I am planning to do a Coppermine installation for the first time ?
I do no see any reference of CPG 1.6.x  on your main page

This sounds contradictory

I would like to run Coppermine under PHP 7.1 and have access to a powerful server.

Please advise.

Our apologies for the confusion. The developer team is a very small number of volunteers who can only work on things in their spare time. Admittedly, the main page has lagged behind where CPG currently is, develpoment-wise. It does point out that PHP 7 support is with CPG 1.6.x.
