Custom fields for albums

I have looked through the forum and through the plugins lists and I don't see any solutions for adding custom fields to albums. In my case each album is for a single event. I would like to record the event date, event sponsor and event location for each album. I could do this with custom fields on each image but that seems redundant when each album could have 100 images and the values would be the same on every image in a single album. Same thing for image keywords.

Has nobody ever needed custom fields for albums?

For contexts outside of just viewing an album (last uploads, most viewed, searches, etc.), there would be extra database work involved in getting the album information for each image. What would be redundant would be to add keyword and user info fields to album data when it already exists in the image data.

What exactly do you want to do with that extra data? Where should it be displayed/used?
