Category Images

I want to have images assigned to my main page categories. However, I don't have any albums in there, I have subcategories where the albums are. So it won't let me assign anything. I tried creating a user gallery to use the photos, but it of course added the user gallery to my main categories, which I dont want. (And if I hide it....then no one else can view the thumbnail.)

I know it's possible, as I'm trying to do something like this site:

(Just how they have thumbnails on the main category page, but you can't see that album.)

How is this done? I just cannot figure it out.

This is done with a plugin not available on the coppermine forum. Its from Edge Design
