problem with bridging to SMF

i recieved this error when i tried to bridge my coppermine wiht SMF

Fatal error :
There was an error while processing a database query

all i did was change the folder to "../forum"

does it matter if the database for the forum is not the same as the gallery?

Yes, it matters. They need to be in the same database.
