It'd be nice to have the ability to move albums to and from different categories. Right now you can do this with categories, but not albums.

not true - of course you can move albums. Click "properties" next to the album thumbnail, then choose the category the album should go to from the dropdown list labelled "Album category". Click "Update album" and you're done. This is all being described in the coppermine docs - next time please read the docs first, then search the board. Only then post your question or feature request.

Joachim,
I just tested, if the album is in the 'User Gallery', the dropdown doesn't appear.  Maybe it should appear if the user has access to public albums?

you're right - I tend to forget about user albums, as I don't use them, sorry. Care to code this and put it into the core code of the devel branch?

Perms are assigned to Albums not category hence the appearence of category dropdown for users does not apply. We need to be abl to give perms for categories as well

That makes sense.  Allowing a user to move a personal album to a public category is probably not a good idea then.  Unless the category itself had a permission setting like "Allow users (in groups X, Y, or Z)  to create albums in this category"  That seems like a lot of work for a feature that probably isn't necessary...

Well, it is a lot of work BUT if this is done it will make CPG that much more flexible

Since it'll be a lot of work as you say, wouldn't it be easier to work on the planned feature "allow nested albums" (albums can hold both albums and files) instead and drop categories completely?

That sounds better to me.  If nobody else is working on that I'll investigate.

I was under the impression that we were going to work on nested albums BUT at the same time not drop categories - categories makes CPG unique and allows Folders -> Files kind of relationship between category and albums.

Lets not make another gallery out of ourselves :D
