Does CPG support username registration using other types of language? for example, chinese gb character username registration, as well as comment functions

Comments in Chinese:
I'm not sure it does, I can't check for myself, since I don't have a chinese keyboard and I don't know how to create valid chinese chars. Why don't you just switch coppermine to chinese and check for yourself? In theory, all chars are permitted, minus special chars that are used for special purposes in PHP. I know that coppermine works well with latin-based special chars at least (e.g. german Umlauts like äöüÄÖÜ, accented chars like áàâéèêíìîóòôúùû). Copy and paste of chinses chars into the comment field didn't work though.

Usernames:  I was able to register with a made-up chinese username (copied and pasted the symbols 最新上傳相簿 from a chinese webpage, it doesn't mean anything to me - I hope it is not offending anyone ;)) into the username filed on the registration page, but I'm not able to log in after successfull registration, as the chars have been made into 最新上& in the database and have been truncated, so I guess you have made me discover a bug in the registration process (there should be an additional check for this). I'm sure this can be hacked, but code changes seem necessary. I started a bug thread on this issue, please check there as well.

The largest chinese coppermine install (in fact the largest install ever) we know of is http://www.pixnet.net/, which features alpha-numeric chars, so I guess the usernames have to be in latin chars.

The short answer to your question is: no, coppermine doesn't support chinese chars in usernames, sorry.

pardon my ignorance

i noticed the website pixnet.net posted by gaugau does not have the line powered by coppermine anywhere
why is it so ?

and another thing is that website provide users with own css customization, i am impressed. Was it a hack that was ever released ?

the theme they use has not been released on this board, and I doubt it will be. I contacted Oasis to look into the issue of the missing disclaimer (is a copyright infringement). You can customize your style sheet at will, take a look at the various themes on the demo page...

Joachim

P.S. Please do not try to hijack this thread - it deals with special cahrs in usernames and passwords, not copyright issues nor theming.

The easiest way to solve problems with chinese characters is using UTF-8 for your encoding.
This will ensure that you will have no problems with characters of ANY language.
We used to allow chinese character accounts on our site without any problems a very long time ago, but we started restricting registration to alpha-numeric characters because we offer users a short URL of http://username.pixnet.net, and DNS won't accept anything other than alphanumeric characters. But if you're not seeking to put usernames into the URL, this shouldn't be a problem. I truly suggest setting your encoding to UTF-8, since there is nothing to lose by doing so.

hi.. I'm sorry for the confusion here, but since july, pixnet has no longer been running on coppermine. The site had grown to an unprecedented size, and we decided it was time to write a new gallery code to meet the specific needs of the site. So I'm afraid features like the user CSS customization feature can't be released as a hack for users here because it is pixnet specific. Pixnet's templating engine works quite differently from coppermine. By the way, judging from the fact that you discovered the css customization function, I gather you are chinese?
