question about updating comments

I noticed that when someone updates their comments, they can update their msg_comment as well as their msg_author field.  I don't understand how this is a good thing, but I'd like to hear why this is the case, as I'm sure this is a feature, not a bug.  :D 

--never mind.  I am stupid.  I realize I was in admin mode.   But I'll get rid of it in user mode because I'm sure it will confuse our sometimes-not-so-bright users.
