Title: No brainer question regarding setup view - thought I'd solved it....
Post by: Neill Watson on September 23, 2004, 04:14:43 PM
I wanted to set up coppermine to display images by category and not display albums. By that I mean that on the main page, a higherarchy of cascading keywords, clickable to display images in that category.
I seem to have done that, but when clicking on a category, it only displays random files, not the full list. The setup I was after was to display pages of the images upon clicking the category, with a random selection at the foot of the page.
I thought I'd acheived that a while ago, but upon uploading files today, I seem to have changed something.
Probably a real no-brainer, but cannot think of anything I've inadvertantly changed.
URL to take a look is: http://www.neillwatson.com/coppermine/index.php
I'd be grateful of any pointers and promise to pay more attention in future!

You cannot have pics just in a category. Pics have to belong to an album, and the album can be in a category. What I suggest you do is set for example 'Transport' as a category and have 'aviation' and 'maritime' as albums within the transport category.

Thanks for the suggestion, Nibbler.
I can do that and have done with 'Saltbrun' and the car show gallery, however, when I click on the category, I only get the random images at the foot of the page, not the album 'saltburn'
See this URL: http://www.neillwatson.com/coppermine/index.php?cat=14
I ammended the code on the index page to read 'breadcrumb/catlist/random,2' under 'contents of main page' in admin , but I wouldn't have thought that would affect it.
What d'you think?

That's because you don't have 'alblist' in the list.

You need that as well, after catlist.

There y'go. Casper - I knew it was a no-brainer.
However, one final thing, why does the album 'test' appear on the index page after I've done that, like this: http://www.neillwatson.com/coppermine/index.php

That's because the 'test' album is not in a category.  When you are in admin mode, you should see the 3 buttons next to it.  To move it into a category, click on the 'properties' button, and change the category it is in there.  Or simply click 'delete', if you no longer want this album.  If you do that, the pics in it will also be deleted.

Thanks, Casper.I figured soon after my last post that it was an 'orphan'.
Many thanks for your help, guys. I guess that means it's problem solved.
Coppermine is a great package and I'm planning on spending more time becoming familiar with it before enlarging and linking it to my main site.
I can think of expensive software packages costing many hundreds that don't offer the same level of fast support available here!

Cheers for now!
