Title: Problem in upgrading to 1.3.1 via Fantastico
Post by: pix on September 25, 2004, 04:54:38 AM
Hello,

We tried to upgrade our coppermine gallery to v1.3.1 via Fantastico, and it looks like a problem during the upgrade left the gallery in an unusable state.  Seems that there wasn't enough disk space for fantastico to create a backup file and the upgrade didn't complete (at least that's what our hosting company thinks).

Attempting to access the gallery returns:

Parse error:parse error, unexpected $ in /home/salsafre/public_html/gallery/index.php on line 607

We've had no luck getting a reply from Fantastico so I'm asking here in hope there's a way to either revert or complete the upgrade without having to re-create all the albums.

Thanks in advance.

There have been issues in the past with fantastico, that's why we recommend not using it at all. Get cpg1.3.2 from our download section (link at top of page), and do a manual upgrade, overwriting all your older coppermine files on your server with the newer ones from the package as suggested in the upgrade section of the docs. Make a local backup first, as well as a mySQL dump before upgrading (so you can savely go back). If you're running out of webspace, refer as well to http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/faq.php#minimumInstall

I had initially installed CPG with Fantastico, and did the upgrade manually. I wouldn't trust those third-party apps to handle the upgrades.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Will try that and report back.
