I installed coppermine yesterday, uploaded a pic OK, now when ever I hit the upload button I get this error message

I didn't cahnge anything between uploading the first picture apart from pulling some files in the templates/ images file so it has me puzzled!

I've got rid of the error by CHMOD albums/edit, don't understand why I had to do this after already uploading a pic OK
Now I'm unable to view the images I upload, just getting the ubiquitous "x" in the corner!
