Title: Photo stream instead of individual album upload.
Post by: sapobiritero on March 30, 2005, 03:48:39 AM
I think things are being done in the inverse order when it comes to organising pictures in CPG. Instead of uploading a photograph to an album and then deciding if we want it on another album, making copies each time, it could be more interesting just to upload the photographs to a continuous stream of pictures the way is done in flickr.com. Then, there is the possibility of picking the pictures and batch adding them to as many albums as one should need, with no extra copies of the file itself, but only extra associations made at the database level.

Need the album no more? Just delete it and leave the pic files and other albums which use the same photos alone.

Flickr.com features are really handy when it comes to organising pictures and creating albums, hence a good gallery tool could implement some of them.

One picture in many albums feature in 1.4 uses keywords to do exactly the same. If you want you can keep uploading all your pictures in a single album and sort them later according to keywords into different albums, keywords in this case act as tags on flickr and no copies of pictures are made... deleting albums will not delete pictures linked to that album (only the pictures which are actually uploaded to that album) The last uploaded meta-album is your photo-stream.

How can I do it? I mean, how can I build an album up using tags?

You will have to upgrade to version 1.4 from the CVS - note that this is a development version - do it only if you are comforatble with Coppermine, CVS etc...

We will talk more once you have upgraded :)

I'm not that comfortable with Coppermine yet  :)
Therefore, guess I'll have to wait for the new stable version. Thanks for the help.  :)

true, but if there is a feature which is undocumented or not mentioned in the docs, how can I betatest it?

In the docs:
QuoteThe Album Keyword is not being used for searching purposes, but to display images from other album into this album. Using this method, files/images can be in various albums while the file itself only exists once on your webserver: you upload a file to one album and assign one or more keywords to it. Then you go to another album's properties and add the keywords you assigned to the file to the second album's "Album keywords" field. For the visitor of this album it will appear as if the file/image existed in both albums.
