Title: To clarify changing mode to 777 or 755 (initial install)
Post by: woodglade on May 17, 2005, 07:42:35 PM
Hi folks,

Yes I am new, but have tried to do my homework prior to asking a question.  I just wanted to clarify if I could, as to the proper message in which I need to send to my webhosting provider, so I can utilize a Coppermine Photo Gallery on my website.

I downloaded 1.3.3. from sf.net and unzipped the files into a directory on my website via FTP transfer.  So now all the Coppermine files are on my website, yet I receive this error listed below.

I have read numerous forum postings in regards to setting up a CPG and I too am required to change it's mode to 777 or 755. (as per the error message I receive in my install.) -include, albums, userpics, edit directories are listed.

I have provided my server information below.

General server information:

Operating system Linux
Apache version 1.3.33 (Unix)
PHP version 4.3.9
MySQL version 4.0.24-standard
cPanel Build 10.2.0-STABLE 83

Thanks kindly for any insight you may be able to offer.

----UPDATE-----

When I asked my webhost to edit my php.ini, my webhost replied with this statement.
" Sorry, this is a shared server and single applications are forbidden to  edit to the server's root php.ini file. If you require root level access you will need a dedicated IP."

So I guess using a Coppermine board is out of the question then fellas? :(

you don't need to edit php.ini. Just CHMOD as suggested in the docs (http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/manual.php#installation), then run the installer.

GauGau,
Thank you sir.  Done.  May I suggest to others to go to this site if you are also stuck between a basic command such as 755 vs 777 and how to change that variable via WS_FTP.
