Here's a list of features that will probably be in the next version of coppermine (version 1.3.0?). Some of these features have already been built and commited to the dev version, some are just in planning phase.
Please note: this thread does
not deal with feature requests! Do not reply to this thread by asking "could you also include this and that feature" - please post such things on the "feature requests (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/viewforum.php?f=7)" board! I will not move irrelevant replies to this thread, but just delete them!
Also please do not ask "when will it be ready?" - we've just released the 1.2.0final, so don't expect the next release to be that soon! If you can't wait you're welcome to check out the current dev version over web cvs (http://cvs.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.py/coppermine/devel/), but use it on your own risk and please understand that we won't support the use of dev versions at all!
Feature list- built-in EXIF and IPTC support (even if the webserver doesn't have EXIF support enabled)
- thumbnails for categories
- edit single picture
- admin notification on user registration by email (admin option)
- option to disable comment flood protection (multiple comments by the same user)
- focus on search box and login box

GauGau
hello, is there a date when that will be implemented in a version ? or a hack ?
thanks, doing great work here !

no release date fixed yet, nor is there a hack available. Thanks for asking for a release date - we just love it when people ask that question :?

This is more of a design issue than a feature, but it would be nice if as much was done in the styles as possible. So, for example, if someone wanted to do a completely table-less design, they could.

Separating the HTML from the code is unlikely to be accomplished in version 1.3.0 it simply is too huge a rewrite.
What about the "Breadcrumb for meta-albums" functions?
Is that mean that pictures could be multi-albums shared? (that is the greatest improvement I'd like to see in a future version...)
Sorry if its a stupid question but I don't know what Breadcrumb could mean... (and the translation in french is not very figurative)
Stéphane
for an explanation of the word "breadcrumb" see http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=1664
GauGau
Gaugau, doen't think I'm an idiot, because I'm not.
Just too much coding & designing work, and I can't even
explain what's it all about XML, it's kinda funny even.
But to the point - the most valuable thing I miss in this versions of CPG is
- image crop (for thumbnail and/or full-size pic)
Is there any way I could help you with redesigning the new skin, I mean not only the colours, but the icons as well?
Marco, Moscow
resize/crop has been added only recently to the dev version in the cvs by Tarique and will be in the next release.
Help is always appreciated - if your interesst lies in skin and proper html I'd say the themes that come with coppermine could need an overhaul to be more standards compliant. We also appreciate the submission of themes or modifications of any kind.
GauGau
Is there a place, I could post the screens of what I allready got?
I would be interested on making a xHTML standart CPG 1.3 skin.
gmarik, just create a new topic on the appropriate forum (if it doesn't go anywhere, start with the General discussion). Yes - you can always provide a link to your site, or yes post the screenshots in the thread of what you already got.
when do expect the 1.3 out? i can't wait to let my users upload multiple pics and galleries.
GauGau's favourite question, especially as he has stated quite clearly twice in this thread
QuoteAlso please do not ask "when will it be ready?"
You better hope he's in a good mood when he reads this, so you just get the response 'when it's ready',
hehe, you alread answered it appropriately
OK, for those who are waiting for cpg1.3.0 to come out, I'm going to update you a bit: we (the dev team) have commited ourselves to have some "must-have" features in cpg1.3.0 before we release; all those "must-haves" are ready except "multiple http uploads" (hyperion is currently working on it). As soon as it's done, we'll release a non-public beta to the tester group (to iron out bugs that might exist) and set a "feature-freeze" for the devs (meaning: they mustn't add new features to the dev version; only bug-fixes are allowed). At this stage, the english language file will go out to the translators (leaving them approx. 1 week for the translation). When the majority of the translations has been sent back, we'll build a second beta (or "release candidate", if you prefer), that will be again tested (especially on possible bugs with the translations). After another testing period of 1 week we'll build a public release, and you'll all be notified that a new version is out.
I know, the big question still hasn't been answered - I'll give you a rough estimate: do not expect the release of cpg1.3.0 before the end of march...
I'll give you an excerpt of the changelog of the dev version here:

Let us put a beta out - ASAP
In fact if the dev check out installs without errors (it does for me) - lets put that out, with just a few lang files next week.
I remember a discussion going on 6 months ago about integrating iBULC (http://www.ibulc.com) into CP for the multiple uploads. I would love to see that happen.
(https://coppermine-gallery.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ibulc.com%2Fimages%2Fselecting_scr.gif&hash=44dcf5b66efcd6f6876072d72b88b29333f062db) (https://coppermine-gallery.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ibulc.com%2Fimages%2Fuploading_scr.gif&hash=8b3905d190c8c5b7cd6466280b15087ec8925e3e)
Since iBLUC is a closed, commercial, and platform dependent application it will never be integrated as main stream in CG.
However - anyone who wants is welcome to create an add-on
No watermarking? :(

hmpf :x
GauGau
Is it possible to add my CSS popup information hack ?
Compatible with IE & Mozilla browsers : and ... 150 bytes of CODE :)
Mozilla isn't able to read actually the ALT information when the cursor is on a album (or photos) to have infos on it.
You can however use the TITLE attribute...
But please do not post feature requests here!

No word yet for the beta yall wanted to let out a week ago? Just want to see how the bugs are coming alone :)
You have to read my posting more carefully: we promised a non-public beta, and that's the idea of having non-public beta: "regular" visitors don't get to download it...
It has been released on 2004-03-05 to the testers. This group contains the contributors, translators and regular visitors of coppermine who do support as well.
There's a board where this group can post bugs and discuss features (which only this group can access).
The reason why we only release it to the testers is the fact that it still contains bugs, and we don't want people to use it on their "productive" sites (and we don't want to get flooded with support requests). Apart from that, that documentation and faq for the new release aren't done yet, there's no language support except english etc.
We'll keep all "regular" visitors informed on the project over the public area of this site (once there is something to actually anounce).
GauGau
What I would find really interesting is if the code could be refined so that it would be lighter and go quicker, and most importantly : that it woun't use as many resources from the sistem as it does now.
Maybe as personal gallery it serves well, but when the visitors increment the sistem notices...
I just wanted to contribute this sugestion.
just switch off the features that will cost system resources (like thumbnails on the first page) and you won't experience problems. Coppermine comes with lots of options that can be disabled, making it run faster...

How do you get into one of those groups? I think I am a marked as a contributor (well one small mod anyway) but I don't appear to have access to the beta.
Thanks for all of the hard work.
Sorry, some of the contributors somehow didn't make it into the testers group - I've added you and sent you the download link along in a pm.

Sorry, it seems I did not get the point correctly: Coppermine is OpenSource, and is hosted on Sourceforge.net.
Should CVS checkout not be available to ANYONE?
Imagine someone wanting to fork a own version, who is not friend of one of the site admins here - he wouldn't get CVS code??
Weird policy, I'd say.
Well, yes, non-existant policies usually are weird.
CVS access is always available through anonymous checkout. However, not everyone wants to install CVS software and do a checkout. Thus, when the first round of testing is done, a target version of CPG is packaged and privately released to the testers. They have special access to the testing board, and most issues are then worked out. A general release is not made available because the Dev Team doesn't want unofficial versions floating out there with non-coders making support requests to fix the bugs. While developers enjoy nightly tarballs, most Coppermine users would have no use for them. The limited release also keeps feedback volume down and specifically targeted, which allows for more efficient testing.
Once the Dev Team feels confident enough, a general release candidate is packaged and publically made available for more widespread testing.

Thanks for the enlightenment ( I must admint I did not check to see if anonymous CVS access works  )!
I was only somehow "confused" seeing here "Testers" and "Normal Users", a fact I would have not expected in an OpenSource development process, and calling a package "non-public beta" is really nice.
If you say "we release today the non-public beta", I can simply checkout the CVS and have it too.
sure, but who tells you I didn't modify the files before packaging up and sending it out to the testers? Just kidding, I didn't (in fact, I just removed the cvs bits)...
Honestly: you can checkout at any time, and you're free to use any (unstable) beta checkout, develop, fork, use it. That's why we decided to use SF.net as development platform in the first place.
As Hyperion said: we just wanted to reduce the number of support requests from newbies asking "why does this and that feature not work?", that's why we labelled it "non-public" (yeah, I know: security by obscurity, but it did the trick: we were even able to fool you; you didn't even try to check out anonymously  ).
OK, let's keep this thread for announcements related to cpg1.3.0, there's already enough thread-drift...
GauGau
I am not exactly sure how to do it. I tried to download CPG from CVS, but I don't know how to do it. I downloaded the CVS viewer program from SF, but now I'm stuck. I don't know python. Can someone just e-mail me dev. version of CPG 1.3? Or try to tell me how to build this CVS viewer.

matej
if you are on windows - install TortoiseCVS
I am on windows. I installed this app. Tx.
But I still dont know how to login with
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/coppermine login
(it doesnt let me to connect)
or
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/coppermine co modulename
(i do not know which modulename to use - is this maybe the name of file requested?)
PS: I know that the password should be nothing (just press enter)
the modulename is "devel" (without the quotes).
GauGau
I think the question above was really the sound of disapointment, more likely he was whishing for a "no you missed it.. its really in this release" type reply.
:-)
Cheers,
Quentin
OK, if you need an easier way, get the cpg1.3.0beta from the downloads section and use webc cvs to update all relevant files.
CVS can be a bitch - took me a while to figure out as well... :-X
GauGau
Sorry guys,
But any realeasdate for the normal 1.3 version yet???
I'm still waiting for the new version, because my dbase is not very interesting anymore with all those type of aircrafts together from over 30 countries :-\\
Thanks a lot
If all goes well, the end of this week. Fingers crossed
Thanks Casper,
Is it safe to download the Beta version, or is it better to wait till the new version is out???
Can you als tell me which files i do have to download, to adjust the 1.2 version???
Because we had quite some work to adjust the layout of the dbase (http://www.militaryaircraftcollection.info)
Thanks in advance
Please wait for the release. The beta download is over 2 months old, and considerably out of date. Virtually all files have changed from version 1.2
The upgrade will have full instructions, and will be easy, just replacing files and running an upgrade script once.
ok,
A few days more waiting couldn't hurt ;)
I have been waiting for CGP1.3.0 for the watermarking feature, I didn't notice it mentioned on the change log posted by gaugau, if it isn't in I might as well try one of the watermarking hacks on the current version. Anyone know if watermarking is in 1.3.0 ?
Thanks for your help :)
Watermarking is not included in 1.3, it will still require a mod for this, depending on the image lib software used.
Hey guys,
End of the week!!!
Some updates please about the progress for the relaese ;)
That's why we don't like to publish release schedules publicly - users will start nagging if you don't release within time. We never said there will be a release at this and that time...
There probably won't be a release today, since another issue has turned uo that needs fixing first.
GauGau
Hi GauGau
I do understand what you mean.
For me it's not a problem to wait another few days, as long as it works "perfect"
So take you're time ;)
CPG1.3.0 has been released, so I'm locking this thread; please refer to http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=6758.0
