Title: need help changing color
Post by: MI on June 26, 2005, 12:13:26 AM
I have been working on this all night last night and all day today and can't seem to figure out how to change the colors on my gallery.

Here is what it looks like:    http://www.beyondpaper.net/gallery/

What I want to change is the grey/black areas to a darker brown.  I can't find them anywhere, I have been playing around in  style.css and am lost.  What would I look for?  What are the names of the areas that I want to change?  I hope that question makes sense.  I don't really know the technical terms.   Thanks so much!!

Michelle

I think the areas you are talking about are actually images. If you are using Firefox, you can right-click those areas to see that they are background images and see their filenames. You would need to modify the image files.

I am not really sure what you mean   :-[  I am sorry, I am a real novice at this.  :-[  I don't use firefox.  Is style.css the right place that I need to be when I edit it.  Would I just look for image?  Is it even possible to change these?  :-[

The image files are in the images folder in the theme and in your case, it's in themes/igames. I can only guess the areas that you are referring to, so it would help if you could provide a screenshot pinpointing the areas you need to modify. From what I see, the gray areas are image files that would require an image editor to change the hue.

Yeah, those are image files:

http://www.beyondpaper.net/gallery/themes/igames/images/tableh1_bg.gif

You can see from the URLs where they are located and the filenames. You would need an image editor to change the color of the images.

how would I go about doing that?  I know how to change colors in psp but where do I find the image file and then how do I change it?

not sure what else I need  :\'(  I just can't seem to get the colors changed and I want them to match my board.  Is there a way to delete the images or would that screw it all up?

in case you were trying with the gif file only: a gif has a reduced pallette (number of colors used) - bofore changing the colors, you have to temporarily convert the image to be in RGB, then apply your color changes, then reduce the number of colors again, then save it. This all happens in PSP (or whatever you use). If you're not able to accomplish this, post the color (hex reprentation or RGB) you want to use instead, and I will post the modified image files. To answer your question: no, you can't just delete those images, they will then show up as broken images on your site's layout.
Side note: it appears that you're trying to accomplish things that you're not ready to accomplish yet, I strongly recommend learning some basic web design things (tutorials and resouces can be found all over the internet, just google for them).
