Title: I haven't even installed yet...
Post by: dancingaphrodite on August 10, 2005, 04:14:38 PM
but I'm looking for some good advice. I've been reading for hours now, trying to figure out how to redo my website. It's less than a month old and has grown tremendously. It's getting to be a monster! I have graphic representation of downloads.. this can probably best be described by just letting you go take a look. I'll leave a link here at the bottom if I'm not too braindead to remember.

What I need to know is if Coppermine would be a good thing to use on my site. It has some special needs. I need to not only show thumbnails and large screenshots, but I need to have a link available for downloads as well as a counter to show how many times a file has been downloaded.

I have been looking at all the other options that I could find and so far, Coppermine seems the best. I'm concerned that it might not have some things I need, which is ok as long as I can make a modification that will work.

Do you have any guidance for me? Many thanks in advance.

Well what's to say. Coppermine does it all and if it doesn't it is (in most cases) possible to write a hack or mod with the help of those who can or yourself.

The board itself is very usefull in getting to work with coppermine and the people on it are willing to help you with your questions.

You can add a download link using bbcode, but you'll have to set up a counter as third party tool, coppermine doesn't come with one that counts how many times a bbcode link is clicked on.

Thank you both for your help. I'm not sure I've got the technical know-how to manipulate the code. I'm an old fashioned html girl that needs to get with the times. I haven't designed a site since I was in college and it seems a whole lot has changed in just the last 5 years! Now I've been called upon to do this site and I can see I've got several hundred hours of reading to do! lol

Thanks again!
