No right click does very little and annoys the heck out of many users. Watermarking is probably the best way to dissuade theft if the watermark is in a location that cropping it out would render the photo somewhat useless.

Hi Dennis,
I've been wanting to try the watermark, it kind of facinates me. I have to figure out the best pattern to make it hard to retouch and crop out.
Have any ideas on watermark designs?

It really all depends on what kind of graphics software you have available to you.
If you search on the internet, you'll find a host of watermark programs that you can download and use for free or on a trial basis. Many of them have tools to create watermarks. I use photo watermark professional.

Ok, searched watermark and came up with many sites, some using Paint Shop Pro which is what I have.

is there a way to prevent that pictures download to "temporary internet files" (cache)?
i already did this in one site and worked, but i cant put this work with copermine
i already put the code to disable right-click and turn off the IE toolbar, im only reducing the possibilities to users to make donwload of the pictures
i know that is impossible to protect 100% but i know i cant protect from a lot of users (newbies)

no, it's the way the www works: if a file is displayed in the browser, the user has it on his hard drive. This is not a coppermine issue, but the way the entire www / web browser technology works. No way to prevent this. Has been addressed in many other postings already, please search the board for details.

In my humble opinion javascripts preventing right clicks suck, mostly if you just keep your mouse above a picture it will give you the possiblilty to save the picture aswell. and for preventing the sourcecode it also won't work since a normal keyboarad has the option to do the same thing with the key next to control on the right of your spacebar
So preventing picture from beeing copied is hard. only thing you can do has got to do with hot linking, by setting your httaccess files.
Preventing files being copied is impossible, just watermark it accordingly

not exactly true: you can keep control of various JavaScript events - this includes not only onrightclick, but oncontextmenu as well.

As I said above: I agree that JavaScript Gimmicks to prevent the context menu are crap - they can't stop a determined user. Additionally, you will lose visitors with JavaScript Gimmicks like that, as there are legitimate uses of the context menu (e.g "open in new window"). If people disable to context menu for me, I'm off - no matter what.
