Title: Problem uploading
Post by: tcatalano on October 26, 2005, 09:09:23 PM
I get the following error message when I try to upload a jpeg image.

Warning: move_uploaded_file(./albums/edit/mHTTP_temp_676d6c2e.jpg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/pdshare/public_html/photogallery/upload.php on line 1197

Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phplAc2go' to './albums/edit/mHTTP_temp_676d6c2e.jpg' in /home/pdshare/public_html/photogallery/upload.php on line 1197

I'm a newbie and know less then nothing about PHP. Your help (in plain English) will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Please read the board rules before posting, this has realy been asked over and over again

http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?action=search2&search=Warning:%20move_uploaded_file(./albums/edit/mHTTP_temp%20failed%20to%20open%20stream:%20Permission%20denied%20in&sort=ID_MSG

Mostly it's just the file permissions which are not correct, CHMOD your album directory (755 sometimes 777 Unix)

Thanks for the reply, but the info is totally useless. If I could understand what you're trying to tell me I would probably be able to write my own scripts and wouldn't need coppermine. The only place I can find to make the changes you suggest is in the config.php at that was already set correctly. I can see this script or program or whatever it is, is not very user friendly. There should be help dialogs along the way to give a "none egghead" a fighting chance to get up and running. No need to reply. I'm probably going to trash Coppermine and go a different route. I really don't want to spend the rest of my natural life in this stupid support forum.

Glad you think so highly of our product and our support system.  If you don't know anything about how to set permissions, perhaps you should take some time and learn how your website operates.  If you don't want to take an active role in fixing your problem, take a hike.  I, and the rest of the devs, have absolutely no interest in helping people with your kind of attitude.

There are plenty of "none egghead" people who successfully install Coppermine.  They are even able to solve problems.  Perhaps you are just a complete idiot.  Thanks for trolling.

I sure missed the fun times over here at the coppermine forum.

@Zarsky: Hehe, I agree.

Welcome back Mark. Good to see you around again.

@moron aka tcatalano: good bye, have a nice life. If you would have done as suggested and followed the link xplicit posted, you would have found out that you had to update from your outdated version to the most recent stable cpg1.3.5. However, you're probably not reading this, so I'm actually replying not to you, but to anybody else who has the same issue and searches the board for an answer.

When you create an image gallery program and the first time you upload a photo you have a problem, that's got to tell you something.
When many users ask for help over and over again on the same issue, that's got to tell you something. If you want to make believe you have a great product, that's your business. I'll leave you with this final thought. "Simple Good, Complicated Bad"

Your problem is with your website, not with Coppermine, as you would have noticed had you actually taken the time to research your problem.  Improper server setup is an issue you need to take up with your host, not with us.

Thankfully this will be your last thought with us.  Here's one for you: RTFM and STFW before posting.

Not really. A complex computer beats a typewriter. A sophisticated GPS navigation system beats a paper map. A car beats a bike.

Simple things for simple minds. :P

You guys/gals don't take criticism very well do you. That's too bad. From what I've seen, this forum is chock full of band-aids, but the patient needs an operation.

Right, but the point is that only your webhost is able to perform the operation when the server is improperly set up. Plenty of people with proper setups are able to upload just fine.

It's like if your company computer does not give you admin rights to install certain applications. It doesn't do you any good to cry and scream at the software company. Only your system administrator can help you.

tcatalano: you said you were going to leave, so why don't you? I have a final gift for you: <°)))o>< - have fun with it.

Locking this thread now. I'll take care as well of tcatalano's urge to pop-up again and again by removing the reply button as well as the "start a new thread" button.
