First off, very nice script :D. I am looking into using it to install a casualties photo gallery on CWTC (http://commemoratewtc.com), and it occurred to me I could equip a browsable gallery to hold screenshots for several hundred site templates I offer to clients.
Anyway, looks like I can't post this in the bug reports forum, so here it is :). Take a look at something:
This (http://templates.intrakinesis.com/albums/temp/deco01-screen.gif) is an image I uploaded. Notice it's about 10k. Here (http://templates.intrakinesis.com/albums/temp/normal_deco01-screen.gif) is what CM did to it upon adding it to the gallery - turned a 10k gif into a 142k image. Is this Imagemagick choking on the gif?
I think it is an IM GIF filenaming issue. I used a batch rename utility to rename all my GIFs to JPGs, uploaded them, and now the script converts them to an acceptable filesize (which is still twice the original size, but still..). Someone may want to look into this.

my 2 cent:
that's why starting a thread in "bugs" isn't open to the public: it's a known issue that is not related to coppermine, but to ImageMagick (or to stupid licensing issues of greedy patent holders). GD doesn't even have GD support because of the licensing issue. Simply don't use GIF anymore! You can have transparency with PNG, and who wants a full screen animation as a GIF? If you need animation, use flash (not supported by coppermine though, mainly because it's a photo gallery, not an animation gallery).
If we'd let everbody post in "bugs", it'd be cluttered with threads like this one, with people reporting bugs that actually aren't bugs...
