I still have (minor) problems with the Umlaute.
- i upgraded from 1.3.5 as mentioned
- changed the include/themes.inc.php as mentioned in an other thread
- ran charsetmgr.php from western to utf-8
=> solved a lot, thx for this
BUT
When I create a new category "Täst" it looks like "T䳴" in "view mode". Also "Ausflüge" in view mode looks strange in the catergory-administration.
Any Idea?

you're not meant to edit themes.inc.php, under no circumstances. What thread are you refering to?
Post a link to your page and your encoding/language settings
I had the same problem like beneedict (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24514.0), followed all hints (also the change of the themes.inc.php from nibbler) cause they solved most, but still have troubles with the characters.
As i said before, if i define for example a new category with Umlaute, it looks strange in the normal view.
My Page http://bilder.leinerweb.at
the same thing I said above of course applies to you as well. Look: a users asked a question and I posted what information is needed to look into it. It's quite pointless to hijack this thread, saying you're having the same issues, without answering the questions I have asked before.
Language: German
Charset: UTF-8 (changes with the tool from western to utf-8)
If i rechange the themes.inc.php to the original, the caterories are fine (both in admin and view screen) but the buttons (for example "löschen") and albumtitles looks strange.
no idea, working on a solution or just having hollyday ;)
happy new year everyone!

upgrade to cpg1.4.3
didn't help, still problems with the categories, look

also tried charsetmrg.php (western => utf-8), no success
There might be another bug.
If u want i can setup a clean installation of 1.4.3 to find out if its an upgrade-problem or bug in the new version.

What does that mean "no success"? Did you succeed to switch your db-tables to utf-8?
Be careful with shouting bug unless you really know what you're doing, this is something developers are not very keen of...
Ok, are u willing to help? I explained the problem as good as i can, made screenshots and answered all your questions.
To came along with the charset-Problem i installed a clean version 1.4.3
http://leinerweb.at/test/
Surprise, the same problem!
created a category "Ausflüge", as u can see, evering fine in the category-administration, except some buttons with Umlaute (for example Batch-Upload => Batch hinzufügen)

but problems in the album-view

If u like i can give u an admin-account of this test-installation and an ftp-account for the directory.
I still think coppermine is one of the best gallery-script but if there are problems after a clean installation i would not call 1.4.3 as stable.
Markus
I really want to help, not grumble at your gallery-script!!!
EDIT: My Browser is not the Problem, tested with http://www.slovo.info/testuni.htm
To me it seems to be the same problem I have with coppermine mentioned in another thread (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=25697.0). I can't run cpg using utf-8 for some reasons, if I run it in iso and covert the language files to iso the display works fine but then there is a problem with album keywords/normal keywords containing special characters or Umlaute.
no idea???
There are so many "Umlauts" threads, I have grown weary to answer them all. Use either utf-8 encoding and convert all your content that your created before switching to utf-8 or vice versa (switch to iso encoding and convert all utf-8 content).
Ok, then i'll wait for a fix, patch or new version.
