i have a very large photo-album that is running 1.3.2. only myself and about a dozen friends use it and i was just wondering if there are quite a few advantages to upgrading and also what are the chances of things going bad? the machine is on my home server so i have full control of it and know exactly what software is on it.
Make a backup before you update and nothing can go bad.
so i would make a backup of the db, and what else? i have all the pics, but i really don't want to make everything over again, as i have 40,000+ pics...
i guess i am asking does the upgrade offer much, is there a changelog somewhere for 1.3.x -> 1.4.x?
thanks

Regardless of whether you want to upgrade, you should do backups anyway. We've seen sad stories of people who had their galleries disappear on them... sometimes due to their host's oopsy.

i backup weekly via acronis true image. both the hdd that holds the db and also the hdd that has all the pics get backed up every week automatically to another hdd (all seperate physical hdds, not just partititions), but rebuilding the entire thing would be a pain if the install went bad and screwed it all up.
thanks for the changelog
The upgrade shouldn't really affect the photos. The backup is mostly if someone wants to go back to 1.3x for some reason. In that case, you need to have the database, config.inc.php and anycontent.php, and any other script-file you have modified. Any file you did not touch, you can retrieve from our download page.
thanks for the info ;D
