I'm sure it's something I did.  Need a hint on fixing.

Re-upload the Coppermine files, they got corrupted during upload.

Better, but still not quite.

Also, version check says I have 4 mandatory files missing.....

still get this at the top of each page:

/cpg1.4 'continue' => 'Press "Next" to start to upload your pictures', //cpg1.4 'link' => 'this link', //cpg1.4 ); } ?>

All files are up to date except:

versioncheck.php and include/picmgmt.inc.php

I have uploaded these files from the 1.44 release, but versioncheck.php is coming up as newer than this release, and picmgmt is coming up as older... neither improves with current file upload.

Download another copy of Coppermine from this site.  Make sure to use a different mirror.  Extract and upload those files.  If you still have these problems, try a different FTP client.

Can I delete everything but album and reinstall db from file?  I have done all suggestions except switching ftp programs, and I still get that line of code in the header.  What is the most immaculate way to start again without having to re-create cats and albums or re-upload media files?

You can safely delete all files other than include/config.inc.php and re-upload. No need to reinstall completely.
