Title: downloading large files in parts
Post by: wuurp on April 04, 2006, 09:20:25 PM
I have a number of large videos and other documents in cpg. I'm using the download hack http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24491.0 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=24491.0), only allow registered users to download, and have disabled direct access to relevant file extensions in httpd.conf.

Everything works well, until some user needs to access a file through dialup. Imagine downloading 99MB of a 100mb file and losing the connection at dialup speeds. Apparently download accelerators that can resume broken downloads don't work. Is there some way to make them work, or to somehow automatically break up a file into smaller chunks, like say a multi-part zip file, that could be downloaded separately and then reassembled? I realize this is probably not something any one would be interested in, but I thought I'd ask.  I really don't want to manually split up all the files just for dialup users.

Provide a direct link to the file instead of sending it through a script.

But then won't I lose the ability to restrict downloads to only registered users?
