Title: Desperation
Post by: horseleap on May 13, 2006, 03:27:45 PM
I have downloaded and unzipped the file, no problem. I can't seam to upload the entire file. I have read countless threads and followed the tutorial but no joy. My ftp program is webshell4, I downloaded ws-ftp so as to be able to follow the tutorial exactly and am unable to get it working. I really want to get coppermine working, should it be that difficult? I know I am not a techi but I usually manage to muddle through, not so on this one, advise please.

Thanks for your interest, I don't know how to upload the cpg.1.4.5 to host, or wherever I am supposed to upload it to. I open my FTP manager, double click on file manager and webshell4 opens, there is an upload button but when I click on it and select the file I have to open files until I reach coppermine.inc.php, this uploads (17.34 kb), but should I not be uploading the entire contents of cpg.1.4.5?

You need to upload the entire contents of the package, the entire folder. Where to upload to depends on your host and where you want Coppermine to be on your site.

Yes, I thought so, but when I open my FTP manager, webshell opens up, when I click on "upload" and browse for cpg.1.4.5, the various files keep opening until only coppermine.inc.php is left to select, I am sorry, there is something very obvious I am missing here. My aim is to use coppermine to show thumbnails of photos on my new website, I saw it working really well on another site, thought it was just the biz for me but I don't have the know how to get it uploaded and working. The tutorial illustrates the upload with WS_ftp, but the my host has webshell4 and it must work differently.

You're slightly confused about the tutorial I think.  You don't need to use your host's file upload utility (for most FTP transfers you shouldn't use that app, as it's usually not the most efficient way to transfer files).  You should get an FTP client (WS_FTP will work just fine) and install it on your computer.  Ask your host for your FTP connection information (URL, username and password).  Once you have that, just connect to your website and use your FTP client to upload the files.

"Slightly confused"? you can say that again! I have downloaded ws_ftp and muddled along that route but still got stuck.
I have entered my host name, user ID, password & account and it keeps rejecting me with a login error. I am taking the login details directly from my ftp user.

Contact your host and ask for assistance.  There's nothing else we can do to help, as the login issue is something only your host can fix.

Thanks for your interest, I will pursue this again after the weekend with my host as suggested.

Monday! Upload resolved, a simple matter of the password being case sensitive.

Thanks again to those who replied, maybe this sinple error would point someone else in the right direction.
