Title: Login problem, cookies suddenly not accepted
Post by: uzar on May 16, 2006, 10:10:35 PM
I read several topics on this problem here, but couldn't find the answer to my exact problem.

I recently upgraded my coppermine to 1.4.5 and had no problems doing so. Except, when I try to login to be able to upload new pictures, a warning appears before the username field, which says my browser does not support cookies. After I try to login, I get the "Welcome" message but I am not actually logged in (when I log in as admin I have no rights to do anything).

This happens to me on every computer I tried it, with several kinds of browsers, so I think we can rule the browser out as being the problem.

What could be going on here? Any ideas?

Please provide a link to your site and if you have a non-admin test user already set up, please provide it.  If not, well . . . we'll see what we come up with.

This is my site: http://pics.uzar.nl (http://pics.uzar.nl)

I do not have a test account and because I cannot login, I do not know how I can properly setup one right now.

disable the sef_url plugin. To do so, use a third party database manipulation tool like phpMyAdmin, browse coppermine's plugin table, disable sef_url there.

What is the problem with the plugin? Why should I disable it?

because it is experimental and might cause your issues - that's why I suggest turning it off. The question "why" doesn't apply here: you have an issue, the supporter suggests a fix. Try turning it off and see if it helps. If it doesn't help, you can later turn it on again. ::)

I tried it, because you are right, trying to see if it helps doesn't hurt. And it helped! The weird thing is, I turned the plugin on again afterwards and logging in still works! This is very, very strange, but my problem is fixed.

Asking "why" I should change something is not strange I think, isn't the whole point of a forum trying to help people understand the application? Then shouldn't we be allowed to ask "why"? After all, if the fix you suggest is a solution and I understand why it is a solution, I will remember it and use the information next time I have a problem. Saves you moderators some work...

Thanks for your help!

True, but forums also contain answers to questions, and the 'why' question has been asked and answered before. So you could have searched to find the answer.
