Title: Database processing error creating user no default password
Post by: amdyh on May 18, 2006, 06:17:30 PM
I have seen the two other threads on this but neither solution works for me.

When trying to create a new user, I get the following error:

While executing query "INSERT INTO cpg143_users(user_regdate, user_active) VALUES (NOW(), 'YES')" on 0
mySQL error: Field 'user_password' doesn't have a default value

File: C:\Website\Coppermine\include\functions.inc.php - Line: 248

The solution suggested by nibbler (thank yoy Nibbler) in this thread: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=27554.0

was to run this command:

ALTER TABLE `cpg143_users` CHANGE `user_password` `user_password` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '' but when I try to run this I get the "waiting for something more" prompt ->. Now, I'm a newbie and I might be getting some syntax wrong, but I've tried cutting and pasting it too. I might be doing something stupid?

This create user error did not occur when I was runing 1.4.3 - only since I upgraded to 1.4.5. The file checker reports that all is well, yet all my files still seem to have the 1.4.3 prefix? Please help this very confused person! Rest of the error output is below.

You need to add a semicolon at the end of the sql statement if you are entering it using command line mysql.

Just tried that but I get an error:

ERROR 1046 (3D000): No database selected

Then select a database first. I'd recommend using phpmyadmin if you are not familiar with mysql.

I have to give up. As I say, I'm very much a newbie to this, and struggling well out of my depth. I've spent hours trying to install phpmyadmin but got nowhere. I just get #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' error, and each time I have to re-create the whole config file as it's not possible to save it.

I had no problem before the upgrade so I think the best thing is for me to return to coppermine 1.4.3. Is there any reason why I cannot undue the update by following the procedure in reverse?

you're running your own server, yet you're not able to install phpMyAdmin? I strongly recommend the whole idea of self-hosting...

Point taken Nibbler! But, I'm on a learning exercise! As I suspected, immediately following my act of throwing in the towel I sussed it. Got the error regarding profile 6... changed to NULL, now works! Thank you for your assistance. I will get better with time! ;)
