You're not supposed to ask for old mods to be converted to the new version. 

But since your question is valid without this conversion request, it's OK in this case.  But please keep this in mind for the future.

There are various ways to do what you want.  The simplest to explain is to go over to the plugin contributions board, download the "final_extract" plugin, and modify it using the information in the thread you linked.  It should look very familiar.  By using a plugin, you can easily change things in an organized way.
