I saw in a forum that someone put a direct link to a video of my gallery.
The direct link is something like:
www.claudebriere.net/coppermine/albums/album1/video1.wmv
but the url should be something like:
http://claudebriere.net/coppermine/displayimage.php?pos=-1193
First, how can someone get or find the direct link?
Second, can I avoid people to do this?
Thanks.
It's not hard to get the info... it's in the html source code. Though it's not as easy as it is with an image where you can just right click the file.
This has been discussed at my webhost's forums. http://www.lunarforums.com/forum/index.php?action=search2 and search for: hotlink wmv
There are a few threads discussing it. You can also do a general search for it elsewhere. It's just that I know people who actually used the solution over there. I haven't tried it myself.

you can edit your virtual host in the apache config against HOT LINKING.
There are many ways to do that, you can even select what tipe of files you want to protect ... so, google is your friend.
no, you can't protect movies from hotlinking that easy. To verify that -> google is your friend
I found a solution: I went to CPanel and I found the HOTLINK PROTECTION option.
I enable it and it seems to work.
Is it the right thing to do? Is it the best thing to do?
How did you test it to see if it worked? The resource I pointed to you earlier indicated that hotlink protection in cpanel does not work for wmv files.
Sorry, you are absolutly right. I tested with a jpeg... ::)
So it is not that easy to be protected from wmv hot linking ... :(
