Our gallery asks the user to check the email and click on the link. Everything was working smoothly for the last year until a few days ago where the link is invalid.
When a user click on the link to confirm the account, it shows,
"An error has been encountered in accessing this page.

Check your config details, you have the defaults there. You don't own nor maintain coppermine.sourceforge.net, so the error message should be quite obvious.
Sorry, I'm lack of PHP programming knowledge but can read a script or two. Can you point me at the right direction on which file to check?
On the web-based gallery, I login as "admin" and check the "config" nothing seems different from before.
What's your config setting for URL of your coppermine gallery folder (http://admin_general_coppermine-url) and Gallery administrator email (http://admin_general_email). Post a screenshot of the corresponding config section (using "additional options" when composing your message) and a link to your coppermine-driven gallery.
I don't see in the config for URL. The Admin email is set at info@bluicesf.com

You're running cpg1.3.2, that's why you don't have that option. There is a particular reasons why we have different support boards for different coppermine versions. Moving your thread from cpg1.4 permissions (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?board=49.0) to the board that deals with your version. Your coppermine version is outdated. Upgrade, preferably to the most recent stable version (currently cpg1.4.8).
How do I update to cpg1.4.8 without losing all my photos? I assume just download the software and upload to the server?

Surprisingly, we have outlined the method to upgrade in the docs (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#13). When signing up, you agreed to only post questions that are not covered in the docs. Being a newbie doesn't mean that you're allowed to ignore board rules (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=22469.0).
I see. I was reading the docs on how to upgrade.
Is there a way I can fix this error and keep the existing version?
I read the docs and now updated to 1.4.8
