Title: Registered user upload
Post by: LightShow on September 03, 2006, 09:52:14 PM
is there a way to create a group that can upload/create albums or subcategories.  Basically I want a group like the admins but not have access to delete other users pictures nor have access to change settings.  Im using coppermine for a family photo gallery where family members can log in and upload thier photos in categories that i selected.  Thanks for the help.

No, non-admins can't create categories nor albums in public galleries. Workaround: allow them to have personal albums (where they can create albums). Once they uploaded, move the files from the personal gallery to a public album you create for them.

I just want to clarify something here. Is it correct that using Coppermine normal users are not able to categorise their images, and that if you want images categorised then an admin user has to do it all themself?

I want an image gallery with multiple categories whereby each user can create an album inside a category suitable to the topic. Am I right in assuming therefore that this is impossible under Coppermine, either by allowing users access to the main categories, or by having sub-categories under the user galleries?

I can see that users can name their albums to match the category of the albums, but how then do you group together similar albums from different users without an admin user having to do this all manually.

I am assuming that none of this is actually correct. I have looked at your demo page (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/index.php) and that seems to have what I want, categories with lots of different users images linked in, but I can't work out how they get linked into those categories - surely not by manual intervention only..

Users can upload into already created public albums, they cannot create their own albums outside of 'user galleries'.

So what use are the categories? They seem a little pointless if only admin can edit them.

So there is no facility for a user to add an album of pictures of their pets, for example, to a category (or album) related to animals?

If you allow them to have personal galleries, then they can create albums within it.

Yes, but can they be grouped with similar albums from other users without admin being involved? If not, why not?

It's not a feature of Coppermine.

Merged with the thread that deals with the very same thing and in which csh69 has posted the same question.
