Title: Netfirms Upgrade
Post by: shaunsimpson on September 25, 2006, 06:07:26 AM

Hi,

I've been using the coppermine gallery software that was provided through my hosting service (Netfirms) @ www.shaunsimpson.ca

The version that netfirms has pre-installed for it's customers is version 1.2.1, even though they rebranded it as "Netfirms Picture Pro Photo Gallery 1.2.1".

I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade the version I have? I was told by the Netfirms tech support that at this time they don't plan on upgrading site wide. Is it possible to upgrade without their help?

Thanks,
Shaun

Yes ,
Create a backup from all files and DB as well , in case of they have modify some core files to meet their DB settings or php settings
and then do as suggested under upgrading doc (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#13)
you can download current version (1.4.9) from top links

Yes ,
erm, "yes"? Are you absolutely sure that "Netfirms Picture Pro Photo Gallery 1.2.1" is identical to previous coppermine versions and can be savely upgraded to a true, genuine Coppermine? I strongly doubt that. My answer to Shaun would have been
QuoteI have no idea. You're welcome to try, but be sure to back up everything before you start

You're right as always :)
I've just checked the generated source code of that gallery and it seems (yes ,it seems) look like CPG ....

Searching the board for the term "netfirms (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?action=search2;search=netfirms)" gives me the impression that they actually haven't bothered to come up with severe changes to the core code except their silly attempt to re-brand coppermine (which is just lame), so it appears that "Netfirms Picture Pro Photo Gallery 1.2.1" actually is "Coppermine 1.2.1". If this is the case, the upgrade to a real Coppermine should work without particular issues.
