Title: Need help in setting up galleries/categories/permissions...
Post by: azjoe on October 13, 2006, 08:54:12 PM
Well, I can usually figure out how to configure new programs fairly quickly, but Coppermine has me stumped.  The attached matrix depicts a series of 'galleries' and the permissions I want.  Can this be done? If so how, as I haven't had any success getting things to work as desired.  Honestly, this doesn't seem to be an unusual organization to me.  FWIW the special "User Galleries" category is confusing/frustrating me in creating the structure and setting permissions that work.

Coppermine doesn't work this way :

Album creation/edit/Delete
- Register/Anon user can only manage their own album whitin User galleries category (group manager)
- Admin has total control

Upload files/Edit/Delete
- Register/Anon user can only upload to their own albums and those public albums that admin give them upload permission to (album properties + group manager)
- Register/Anon user can only edit/delete their own files on their own album or public album if admin gives them permission (config=>User settings=>Allow users to retain control over their pics in public galleries)
- Admin has total control

View
- View permission can be set based on user group (album properties)

Also there are some Mods (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?board=78.0) that gives you more option ....

Thx for the reply Sami.  I feel better knowing that it wasn't my stupidity which prevented me from being able to configure Coppermine to do what I need.  Having spent some time digging into the forum a little more, it seems what I wanted to do is not unusual... there's even some mods that address similar needs.  Maybe Coppermine will adopt some of these as a quick way of increasing its feature set... it could fill many more users needs then.  I'll check back periodically to see if the features I need get implemented and then give it another go.
