Title: Thumb trubbles
Post by: Freaky on November 04, 2006, 02:49:30 PM
I need some help of you guys,

I have recently updated some albums that where already online. I added a watermark to the pictures, did it myself on my PC and uploaded the photo's again.
Then i went to the admin account and went to tools and did the process thumbs and images.
The Images are all updated by this. Great but the thumbnail are not good i the watermark runs over them really big, but like on the real picture  :-\.

Now i looked and looked but it wont work. Do you know whats up, or what i can do.

If you added the watermark manually on your PC, did you check to see if it looked OK before uploading. How did you watermark them? If you want to watermark manually, you can do this one of 2 ways depending on your desire.

1. Watermark the original photo before uploading. This way the thumbnail and intermediate images will also have the watermark on images. I don't like this method because it can cause the thumbnail to look bad.

2. Upload and process in Coppermine the original photo without a watermark thus creating a thumbnail and intermediate photo. Then watermark your original photos on your PC and using FTP, just upload them overwriting the original images (make sure to use the same file name). No need to do anything further in Coppermine. When you click on the intermediate photo, the fullsize will display your watermark.

Unless you are creating some really cool artwork, have some great photos or are selling photos online, there's really no reason to. You can also try out Stramm's modpack which has the ability to add a watermark - http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?board=86.0 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?board=86.0)

[EDIT] OK, let me guess, you added the watermark to the thumbnail, intermediate and fullsize images offline? Your program doesn't shrink down the text on the image thus it's a 16px font on a tiny image.  You either have to use a smaller font or don't bother watermarking the thumbnail. There's really no need to.

No i added most albums a long time ago.
Lately i changed my way of working and added a watermark. I did this my self with an X program and uploaded them in a new album and they work fine. (see Peru album)

But i also wanted to watermark my old albums so i downloaded
....................  ??? ???

While i'm typing this i say what i did wrong  :-\ I not only downloaded the Normal and original picture but also the thumb's. and it was a automated program that places the signature in the thumbs but they are way to small ::).

So i figured it out, i need to get the old thumb from a backup and place them back.

Thanks Gizmo for waking me up ;D.
and yes, i am a great photographer and artwork creator!!!!!! (the rest of the world just doesn't see it :P)
