Title: New installation / website transfer
Post by: Renesis on November 19, 2006, 11:46:18 PM
hi,

I just switched hosts and I had backed up everything I had in my coppermine folder on the old host, but when I try to reupload it and reinstall it (even with the mysql changes) it does work, but I don't see my uploaded pictures, nor my albums or comments...

My question is where are they stored? and is there a way to go back from that backup to a new install that will bring back my comments and photos already in the right albums and such?

Thanks  :)

Maybe your data is lost, maybe not.

BTW: A link to your gallery maybe helpful to see what your problem is.

Your coppermine is running and all old comments, ratings, etc. are there?
Only your pics are missing (I guess you're seeing empty frames instead, right?)?

1. Via FTP: Check if your pics are inside the "albums" folder.

2. Browser: Right-click on an empty picture frame and find out the URL where CPG expects the pic to be.

Next steps depend on what you'll find out.  ::)

Nope,

www.kevintrudel.com/photo

the pics you see there are the ones I just reuploaded manually..

The comments are gone too, I just don't get which file makes the gallery pick up the pictures in the uploaded folder and where the comments are stored.. because it looks like I lost everything even if I reuploaded all the files as they were last time on the other server :(

I guess I'm really stupid but I can't find the darn edit button on that forum..

anyway, the correct link is www.kevintrudel.com/photos

Arghh...  :o
All that information is stored in a database and NOT in any file you'll find in your coppermine folder. You'll have to make a dump of your (MySQL) Database via phpMyAdmin or whatever tool your server or webhost provides and restore it on the new server.

Looks like you make a completly new install on your new server.

Ahhhh

so shweet!

and I haven't got access to the old host CP anymore..

ok well thanks for your help, sounds like I really need to do a fresh install and I lost that stuff..

I'll be more cautious this time!  ::)

If you made a backup of you old cpg files and re-installed all of them (including the old 'albums' folder) ...

Quotethe pics you see there are the ones I just reuploaded manually..

... then you don't have to re-upload all your pics again, just re-batch-add them out of the albums folder.

And I guess you already did a fresh install - otherwise your actual cpg wouldn't work at all.
