Print Page - thumbnail for category (no album) with subcategories (with albums)

I have tried to do that but the only way i found is to use a fake album in main category.
The incovenience is that you can enter this album with one image (it is useless for what i need).
How can i set the thumbnail for the main category with no albums? Is there a mod or a plugin?
