Title: moving from phpBB2 to SMF
Post by: totosfo on January 06, 2007, 03:22:03 PM
Hi all,

I'm currently running a phpBB2 forum (+250.000postings, 2.0.21) with a bridged coppermine gallery (+12000 pictures, v1.4.10), everything is working perfect so far.

Now I'm planning to migrate the website to Joomla and switching the forum to SMF. In my test environment, I successfully converted the forum to SMF and bridged it with Joomla. Next step would be Coppermine, and I'm wondering how to proceed here. Shall I bridge it with Coppermine or with SMF? Can I just unbridge it from phpBB2 and connect it to SMF?

The forum and the gallery are the core components of my website, any advice of how to move the best way from phpBB2 to Joomla/SMF would be highly appreciated.

Thanks a lot for your help!

Regards,

Thomas

I suggest bridging Coppermine with SMF.

Hi GauGau,

thanks for the recommendation, that's my currently my favourite approach as well.

Can I just change the bridge settings from phpBB2 to SMF or do I have to perform any additional tasks like updating Userids, etc. as well?

Cheers,

Thomas

If the phpBB to SMF migration went flawlessly I couldn't see a reason for the bridging going wrong. Just re-run the bridge manager.

Hi GauGau,

wow - that was quick and good news, too!

Yes, my current test converstions phpBB2 to SMF went flawlessly and I'm happy to hear that rerunning the bridge-manager will do the trick.

Thanks again for your help.
