Title: Batch add files - No new file was found - Error
Post by: bence8810 on April 08, 2007, 09:30:33 PM
Dear Forum,

I have a strange problem with my forum just recently. Its on a hosted server and recently I am unable to add files with the Batch-add function.

I have read through the Troubleshooting docs, and tried everything. I am able to add files with the Single file upload method just fine, the problem is only with the Batch add. There are numerous files in the folder from where I am trying to add them, but it says No new file was found.

http://www.celifornia.com/fotoalbum/  is the link to the gallery, and the test account is

test test

Thanks for any help, and the forum is prepared with all things the troubleshooting suggested for,

Ben

Hi

So this error is not resolvable? I tried with my hosting support, and they have no idea either.

Any pointers on this? Shall I wipe out Coppermine and try a reinstall? That would be painful because I have over 500 MB pictures, and I really liked it, until it worked/

Thanks,

Ben

Try searching using "No new file was found" as the search criteria.

Does the folder you upload the pictures into with ftp has any special characters ? Do not use periods in foldernames. If a foldernames is like folder.name rename it to folder_name using a _ instead of a . character.
As mentioned in this thread: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=40079.0 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=40079.0)

Did you try shortening the foldernames into which you upload the pictures ? To prevent server side limitations.
As mentioned in this thread: http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=37757.0 (http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=37757.0)

If the problem persists post a deeplink to one of the pictures in the album from which your trying to batch add.

Hi

Thanks for picking this up. None of the above worked, and I have longer file-names and longer Folder names.

But to be sure, I shoprtened the foldername, and the filename as well.

Here is a deeplink to it,

I assume you did try the troubleshooting steps as mentioned here http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble (http://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg14x/docs/index.htm#upload_trouble)

The folder are also properly chmodded ? If all else fails then a reinstall can be done. But you don't need to remove the albums folder. Backup your DB. Remove the cpg files (except for the albums folder) and then reinstall. You then still have the pictures on the server. And you can use CPGMassImport from here http://cpg-contrib.org/board/index.php?PHPSESSID=d397e71d95735abcf9f26c24823aff95&board=25.0 (http://cpg-contrib.org/board/index.php?PHPSESSID=d397e71d95735abcf9f26c24823aff95&board=25.0) to add the pictures to your cpg in 1 go. CPGMassimport then imports all pictures and makes albums based on the folder structure.

I don't recommend re-installing. Re-uploading the coppermine core files and reviewing permissions should have the same effect.

Hi

I have the coppermine gallery now replicated to another server at home, and its doing the same thing, cannot batch-upload. Something is definetally wrong.

Can you suggest which files to re-upload? Will this still keep the modifications I have made in the theme?

Thanks

Hope you dont take this as bugging, but I am still interested in getting to know which files exactly to upload to have a "reinstall" effect on the site, which might fix my gallery's batch add function.

Thanks

All the files except anycontent.php. If you did as suggested and renamed your custom theme, then nothing can go wrong. Just do as suggested in the upgrading section of the docs.

Hi

I have uploaded all files, but still receive the same error. No new file was found.

What shall I do?

Also, after I re-uploaded all files, except the one you above mentioned, the site was working great, without any problems. Is that normal?

Thanks

What server operating system are you on?

Hi

Its a hosted server, so I dont know exactly what distro they use, but for sure its Linux, and this is what I see from the Cpanel:

Operating system Linux
Service Status Click to View
Kernel version 2.6.9-42.0.10.ELsmp
Machine Type i686
Apache version 1.3.37 (Unix)
PERL version 5.8.6
Path to PERL /usr/bin/perl
Path to sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail
Installed Perl Modules Click to View
PHP version 4.4.3
MySQL version 4.0.27-standard
cPanel Build 10.9.0-STABLE 9966
Theme cPanel X v2.6.0
Documentation Click to View
cPanel Pro 1.0 (RC36)

As for my home server onto which I migrated the site (and also doesnt work) is Debian Etch linux.

The thing that has me going is that I have the same site at two places, and the batch add function doesnt work the same way. I am sure I did something wrong, and it was migrated to the other location as well.

Any help is appreciated,

Thanks

Send me a PM that contains:
* a link to this thread
* a coppermine admin account
* FTP access data
and I'll see what I can do

This might be an ownership issue. Try the solution discussed in http://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php?topic=41867.msg203549#msg203549

Hi

I checked the permissions of all files, and they are all owned by the same user:group (myuser:myuser) except the thumb_ pictures of the already added albums, those are owned by nobody:nobody

Should this be fine? Also, I have the same album on a different server, and on that its producing the same error. On that server all files are owned by www-data:www-data, even the thumbs.

What do you think might be wrong?

Thanks

Yes, this indeed looks fishy. All files should be owned by the same user. Try CHOWNing if you can.

Hi

My hosting admin did the chowning for me as I had no access, but it still doesnt work, same sympthom.

Any other ideas? Again, its producing the same very same error at home on my dev server.

Thanks

In searchnew.php, coppermine uses the $_GET variables. Make sure that you don't have a hardening patch in place that keeps the script from using the URL parameters.

Hi

This hardening patch would be on the server side, or in the file itself? If on the server side, then its unlikely, as I have it on two different server, with two different providers, and it does the same thing.

If its in the file, what should I check for?

Thanks

I was refering to a hardening patch on the server.

Hi

I asked the Admins at my webhosting, and they have no idea abou what you might be referring to. On top, I also have it in my home server, which definetally doesnt have a hardening patch, specially that I dont even know what that is, so I wouldnt have installed it.

Any other clue?

To recap:

I have the same site on two locations. One is my webhost, and one is on a Debian server at my house. First, i had it on the webhost location then I as it was, migrated to the home server for testing, but didnt do any modifications. They both have the same problem, so I would guess its with the DB or some of the files, but we already reuploaded the files......

Dont know what to touch next,

Thanks

I must confess that I'm running out of ideas as well.

Hi

That is fine, I am sure this is one weird problem.

How do I go about it now, if fixing wont work? Reinstall is also fine for me, as long as it will bring back the full functionality.

I have a lot of folders with 1000s of pictures, so a quick method would be preferred. Can you help with that?

Thanks

Hi

Still looking for a solution. I am ready to reinstall the whole library, but dont know where to start. I have all pictures hosted in the "album" folder, so if I save that, I should be fine importing all pics back? Is there an easy way to get all pictures back to the gallery?

Thanks

Ben

Hi

Thread can be closed, case is solved. Actually it was never solved, what I did is removed the coppermine installation keeping the albums folder, removed the MySQL database, the user, and whatever was related to it, reinstalled it, and now I am importing the albums one by one with the batch add picture function.

Still dont know what could have gone wrong, but I am glad after all its slowly becoming available again,

Cheers, and thanks for all efforts helping me,

Ben
