Title: integration with SMF?
Post by: ct1 on May 07, 2007, 01:16:05 AM
I am currently using phpbb2 and cpg1.4 in 2 seperate directories(bridged).  I want to convert phpbb2 to SMF, then integrate cpg1.4 inside the same directory as SMF and set cpg 1.4 to run on the SMF board.  Is this possible without losing any members nor pics?
I currently have 865+ members and over 4288 files in 53 albums and 4 categories with 271 comments viewed 435384 times http://texashotboats.com/gallery/ (http://texashotboats.com/gallery/)

I really don't want to lose anything here, any help greatly appreciated. :)

Search the board for previous discussions. If the user id numbers remain the same after conversion then you can simply re-bridge. If they don't then you'll need to adjust them manually in the db.

You can't run Coppermine and SMF in the same directory, so I assume that is not what you really mean.

Actually I meant the same database not directory, but i guess I would be moving the current database and that would cause me to lose all is this correct?

No need to lose anything.

Thanks Nibbler for the quick reply!  I will backup all and give it try. :)

Hi mate, how did you get on with this? I'm about to embark on the same journey and any heads up would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gavin.

I can confirm this works correctly. I switched from phpBB which was bridged to Coppermine, over to SMF and everything works like clockwork. The user ID's remained the same because Coppermine was using the forum software.

Steps as follows (briefly)

- Unbridge from phpBB.
- Convert phpBB to SMF using script provided on SMF website.
- Rebridge Coppermine to SMF

If you have trouble with URL redirects (when trying to log in / log out) you may need to manually change them in your database. If anyone tries this and has problems, I'd be happy to try and help (granted I'm not an expert). PM me if you need help.
