Title: Public album upload permissions - Public albums upload/Vistors can upload files
Post by: rgbii on August 01, 2007, 04:02:03 AM
Hello folks, I've read through the documentation and have been looking and searching the forum for an answer but haven't found it, though I did find
one thread that seems to indicate I'm not the only one with this problem.
We set the site up a week or so again, and am running version 1.4.12 (stable).
This is a none, bridged setup.

From reading the manual, it seems that two things need to be true for users to be able to upload into a public album created by the admin.

1)  The user must belong to at least one group that has "Public albums upload Allowed" = Yes
2) The public album created by the admin must have "Visitors can upload files" = Yes

After reading the documentation, it seems that if either of these are No, the user should NOT be able to upload into the public album.

However, on our system, as long #2 = Yes, they can upload to that album.   #1, the group setting, doesn't seem to effect the upload at all.

So, am I reading the documentation wrong, or am I doing something else wrong?

If this is the way it's supposed to work, then I'm not sure of the purpose of "Public albums upload" in the group settings.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Richard.

QuoteBear in mind that if a user is a member of a group where "Rating", "Comments" or "Public albums upload" is set "YES", s/he will have the right to perform these operations only in albums where they are allowed. ( ie. uploading files will only be possible in albums where "Visitors can upload files" has been set to YES.)

Hi jerx, thanks for the reply - I've read that, over and over infact. That just seems to confirm that I've read the documentation correctly, but the fact is on our system, what is says is not what's happening - they CAN upload, even if the group is set to "Public albums upload" = No, as long as the album is set to "Visitors can upload files" = Yes.

Richard.

Post a link to your page and a non-admin test user account.

Thanks for taking a look, if you need anymore info, just let me know.
Currently, everyone has "Public albums upload allowed" = No, and "Vistors can upload" = No.

Test account does not work. Please either enable debug mode or post the debug info when logged in as the test account.

Looks like I may have had the pw wrong, which has been corrected, however, even though I would still like to know
what's going on with group/album permissions, because of limited time, we've found another solution using album keywords.
Thanks to everyone for your time,
Richard.

Right beneath the "Powered by Coppermine Photo Gallery" tag on your gallery there is a line that reads "Code Modified by: Jeff Curley | Richard Bingham". What code modifications did you actually apply? Maybe they are related to your issue. Please post at least the name of the file affected by your code changes.
Please post a screenshot of your groups page as well (attach it using "additional options" when composing your message).
