Title: category and index view
Post by: Singular on September 06, 2007, 05:44:34 PM
Hello all,
I can't figure out how to get my site to display the categories as they are on other sites such as Stramm's site (http://stramm.st.funpic.org/) and others I have seen. They have one thumb of the category on the left and nothing else below, even for categories that have more than one album. When I try to do that, it has links for all of the other albums. I do not want that. How did they do it?

Here is my gallery: http://asingularcreation.com/Gallery/

all the best,
Joe

It's a config setting - 'first level album thumbs'.

Thanks for the reply. I know about the config settings for this, but the result does not look like the other sites.

You have first level album thumbs turned on, Stramm has got them turned off. Not surprising imo that yours looks differently than his.

Thanks for the reply. If I turn off first level album thumbs, there will be no thumbs on the index page. Stramms has a thumb for each category on the index page.

Set thumbnails for your categories then.

I don't think you guys understand what I am asking. In Stramm's site, he has categories listed on the left with a thumb. Each category has albums, but they are not listed on the index page. Only the category name is listed beside the thumb. http://stramm.st.funpic.org/

If I attempt to do that on my site, I get the category listed with a thumb of one of the subalbums below it. I also get number links to the right with all of the other subalbums. I am not able to achieve what Stramm has done through the config options.

Is there some special coding or skinning involved?

No particular magic - what Stramm did can be achieved using regular coppermine config options. Just do as Nibbler suggested. Then post again here so we can have another look at what you did.

Hello again,
I did what you recommended. Here is the result: http://asingularcreation.com/Gallery/index.php

Notice how the categories are listed, but the thumbnail is of one of the subalbums. Also, the number of albums are linked on the right.

thanks,
Joe

We are telling you to set the config option 'Show first level album thumbnails in categories' to 'No'. What you appear to have done is to set 'Number of albums to display' to '1' which is different.

Ok, I have now done that. Can you take a look now?

thanks,

That's right. Now setup your category thumbnails and you will get the effect you are asking for.

Thank you soooooooo much. I usually figure these things out, but didn't realize category thumbs could be set. that was throwing me off. I truly appreciate all of your guidance and patience.

all the best,
Joe
