Title: Hiding Language menu from bots
Post by: Loisirs64 on November 22, 2007, 04:58:21 PM
Hi,
I'm new here although I've been using Coppermine from time to time over the years. I think it's a great gallery.
However, I have my first question. Is there a way to hide the drop menu for the choice of languages from search engine robots. I see from the Google results that the languages can get included in the page description. BTW I don't want to use the flags.

regards,

The language list is javascript driven, spiders won't process it anyway.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

I thought that too about javascript not being spidered but take a look at the Google results page from the link below and you will see what I mean.

Add a description meta tag into your head section. Google will use that instead of trying to guess a description.

Thanks for the idea...  I'd thought about that but Google no longer uses this meta tag for ranking purposes, it's only for page results descriptions and if Google finds many many pages with the same meta tag description it tends to "hide" them so you need to click on the "show all results" link at the bottom.

BTW I know there is not that much text on my gallery pages but there wil be soon.
