Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered

MySQL error was : Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client

I am using godaddy hosting services, using windows xp. i have mysql 4.1 and have tried 5.0, same error. i called their support and they said all my information seems to be right and it should install but that is as far as I can get, then they said since its not their product they really aren't sure. any suggestions ? and i need a file permission changer too if you all have any recommendations for one for windows xp. i tried cuteftp and some others and nothing works. thank you..

This is a hosting issue unrelated to Coppermine. See http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/old-client.html. Note that the client here is PHP itself, not Coppermine.

Could not changing the file permissions first cause this error ?

To solve this problem, you should use one of the following approaches:

    *

Upgrade all client programs to use a 4.1.1 or newer client library. ---im using i thought the latest coppermine 1414. i guess that should be checked off right ?
    *

When connecting to the server with a pre-4.1 client program, use an account that still has a pre-4.1-style password. ---I didn't think i was using a pre-4.1 client program ? have i downloaded the wrong coppermine installation files ? you sort of lost me on php client.
    *

Reset the password to pre-4.1 style for each user that needs to use a pre-4.1 client program. This can be done using the SET PASSWORD statement and the OLD_PASSWORD() function: ---see how im using windows, i am not sure how this can be done, i have checked and seen no solutions :(.

ive read, ive tried, but still am lost and unsure.

It's not related to file permissions, or Coppermine. Only your host can solve this. If they don't know how then you're stuck.
